When I taught Family of Sociology at U of M Flint, I was lucky enough to connect with Michael Moore (on Twitter @mmflint). Although the discussion didn’t get too much into family topics, it was intended to. You can view the discussion here:

What I’d like you to do is read his book and pick out pieces of it about his upbringing. Think about some of these questions:

  • What influenced Michael Moore to become who he was? Family? Neighborhood? Which was a bigger influence?
  • How did his father’s occupation influence his life outcome?
  • Which of his movies is connected most to family issues? Sicko [health care]? Fahrenheit 911 [terrorism/race/government]? Roger and Me [industrialized city]? Any other movie [he has several]?

I want you to read the available free text below and you can make a comment on it. But, I also want you to pose a question to Mr. Moore via Twitter (@mmflint). I bet he will reply to you! Think about how we can connect to influential people now. It is a great new frontier of communication. Please, by all means, reach out to Mr. Moore on Twitter and post your outcome!

What does Michael Moore have to say about the American Dream?
