Development Director

Dear University of Maryland,

I am writing in regard to the position of Director of Development at the University of Maryland.  I became aware of the position through an intradepartmental memo, as I am currently completing a doctoral program in Sociology.

You included the job requirements within the position description.  The memo indicated you are searching for a specialist in varied and integrated communications products and services.  I have extensive experience leveraging electronic broadcast, print media, and social media platforms.  Due to the nature of my various roles, I have quite a bit of comprehensive knowledge on a variety of info-media streams.  In addition, I have written and researched media transmission as a grad student, working with scholars in the MSU Communications Department.  I visited Maryland this past summer as an invited speaker to present at the national Visiting Nurse Association of America yearly conference.  I am excited at the opportunity not only to work for the University of Maryland, but to work in the beautiful state of Maryland.

As a health care services professional, I have presented my practical knowledge at the National Bereavement Camp Conference as an invitee of the Moyer Foundation.  I have also collaborated with state legislators on important health care policy by providing constituent input to lawmakers.  My professional background includes many practical applications and I bring that pragmatic approach to generating personal and long-term relationships with a variety of funding groups, lobbyists, and non-profit agencies.

My primary objective is to meet the needs of the University of Maryland.  I look forward to having a discussion with you about how I plan to accomplish that should I be chosen as the best candidate to fill the Director of Development position.  My curriculum vita is enclosed and I would be happy to submit either written letters or phone calls in support of my application.  Please do not hesitate to contact me if I can be of further service to you.

Sincerely,

John Girdwood, MSA
